Violin Masterclass

ilya-kaler---about---photo-filteredThe Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) continues its masterclass partnership with Westminster Conservatory of Music, the community music school of Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, with a PSO BRAVO! masterclass featuring violin virtuoso Ilya Kaler.

Violin students from area schools will benefit from Mr. Kaler’s experiences as both a performer and respected teacher as he works with them to prepare recital repertoire at this public coaching session.

Pianist Akiko Hosaki will accompany students in performance.

Observation of the violin masterclass is open to the general public with ticketed reservation.

Bryan has been playing the violin since he was four. He received three High Honors at the New Jersey Music Teachers Association Spring Recital from 2016 to 2018. He also won a Super-Bronze in the Golden Key International Music Festival in 2018. He participates in his school’s orchestra program and the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra.

Henry began playing the violin at age five with Paul Manulik. He participates in the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra and his school orchestra program. His favorite composer is Johannes Brahms.

Simon has been studying the violin under his father’s tutelage since he was six. He is currently a student in the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School of Music. He performed as a soloist with the Binghamton Youth Symphony when he was eight. He received a perfect score playing a Level VI String Solo at NYSSMA in 2012, and won the Gold Prize in the International Virtuoso Competition when he was ten.


Kristy ChenKristy Chen – Age 15

Henryk Wieniawski – Polonaise de Concert in D Major No. 1, Op. 4

Kristy started the violin at age six. Recently, she was named a 2018 National YoungArts Foundation winner. Her diverse violin achievements have opened doors for her at concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Haydn Esterhazy Hall in Austria, and the Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center.
