Planned Giving

Planned giving offers a variety of estate-planning opportunities that allow you to make a lasting difference in the financial stability of the PSO, while at the same time creating a musical legacy and enjoying potential income-tax advantages.

The implications of charitable giving depend on factors unique to each donor’s situation; it is important to consult with a financial advisor on tax-related and estate-planning matters.

If you have included a gift to the PSO in your will or estate plan, please let us know! Your planned gift entitles you to membership in the Portia Sonnenfeld Society, named for the PSO’s founder whose vision you will help endure.

Outright Gift (Bequest)

A bequest is a simple and convenient way to leave a lasting and significant impression on the PSO. Your bequest may be made for:

• A specific gift of cash, stock, or securities.
• A percentage of your estate after expenses are paid and payment of any specific amounts designated to other beneficiaries.

Bequests may be designated for either:

• General purposes to be used at the PSO’s discretion
• Restricted for endowment purposes

The following model language may be helpful to you and your attorney in drafting your bequest for the PSO:

I hereby give and devise to the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, a New Jersey nonprofit corporation, (select one)

the sum of $_______________
___% of the residue of my estate,

to be used for the following purposes (select one)

restricted for the endowment fund
designated for general purposes to be used at the PSO’s discretion

Charitable Gift Annuities

A charitable gift annuity turns low-income producing stock or extra cash into a stable income. In return for a gift of cash or stock, the PSO agrees to make fixed, semi-annual payments to the contributor for a specific amount of time.

• The amount of the payment never fluctuates.
• The amount of the payment is not dependent upon the PSO’s investment of the gift.
• The contributor receives an immediate tax deduction.

The PSO works with the Princeton Area Community Foundation to structure and accept planned gifts. We would be pleased to assist you and your attorney in drafting specific language to best refect your wishes.
