Learn about the life and times of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to hold public office in California, depicted in the 2008 film Milk. Actor Sean Penn's portrayal of Harvey Milk earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. In advance of the movie, the Princeton Festival welcomes Andrew Reynolds, author of The Children of Harvey Milk: How LGBTQ Politicians Changed the World” (Oxford University Press) to speak about the impact Harvey Milk had on politics and the LGBTQ community.

This screening is presented in partnership with the Princeton Festival Guild and the Princeton Public Library.

Photo of Andrew ReynoldsAndrew Reynolds received his B.A.(Hons) from the University of East Anglia, a M.A. (Dist.) from the University of Cape Town, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego. His book, The Children of Harvey Milk: How LGBTQ Politicians Changed the World (Oxford, 2018) has been lauded as a groundbreaking study of the impact of out queer elected officials. In  2017 he was shortlisted to be the United Nations Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity at the UN Human Rights Council, Geneva.
